Cloud security has been on my mind lately. Short of hiring a consultant, what steps can an individual running a small business take?

Don't put your data out there in the first place if security breaches concern you (and they should of course, given the frequency they are occurring these days).

Keep your data & system backups stored locally, and keep the media under lock & key until you need it.

I've got free cloud storage available to me from several providers - - - I never use it nor do I ever intend to.
