So I recently got my hands on some 99% pure isopropyl alcohol because people have been telling it's best to use when cleaning computers. I am looking to do some external cleaning of my laptop and was wondering exactly how to go about cleaning it. Do I just wet a cloth with the alcohol and start rubbing away or do I need to mix the alcohol with something else? Would it be ok to use Q-tips for the keys and a lint-free microfiber cloth for the screen? Thanks!

yes and yes and yes

be careful not to rub too hard or for too long, or you might rub away the tampos on the keys, or coloring if there is some anywhere

For the outside, that generally will work alright. Try to keep from dumping the alcohol into the electronics, but if you were to get anything on the computer, that's one of the best liquids to splash all over it. It dries real quick when ventilated well.

Make sure the laptop is unplugged and the battery is out.
