This thing has the screen of a netbook yet it's web browser does not have tabbed browsing.. and I bet Mac owners will still love the downgrade from the evolution web browsing has witnessed since firefox introduced the now "default feature" on every browser.

This is going to sound ridiculous, but Opera Mini 5 Beta 2 has tabbed browsing, and I can run it brilliantly in my 3 year old Nokia N95.

I suspect, just like the news the other day said, that updates to this OS are going to be paid... and tabbed browsing is going to be in that update.... Apple is always making history backwards...

[citation][nom]tuannguyen[/nom]Yeah that is getting really damn old. Everytime we post something that you don't like, oh em gee Tom's must be getting paid. Whatever man, if you don't like it that I spent my weekend trying to write stuff for people to read then go read something else. The internet is full of options. The fact is, there are things to cover and be said. And if you haven't noticed, Tom's isn't really Apple's cup of tea.[/citation]
JooJoo was released a few days before the iPad. Where's the in-depth coverage? Will there be the same in-depth coverage of competing products like the HP Slate, Archos 9 (you may have covered that one, not 100% sure), ExpoPC Slate, ICD Vega, Viliv X70, Plastic Logic QUE proReader, Dell Streak, Notion Ink Adam, or Asus Eee Tablet?

Considering the number of publications that cover Apple's launch products, I'm just wondering where the fair and balanced coverage of other competing products is.

I don't see why they would exclude Flash support. Sure, Flash has its problems, however, it is a de facto web standard. Support Flash now, and then motivate the Apple marketing machine (its greatest asset) to assit in the inevitable Flash downfall that is inevitable.

Also, no tabbed browsing on the iPad? I suppose it goes hand in hand with the inablity to multitask. "We here at Apple don't want our users to get to get too busy and forget to go to iTunes."

To put it bluntly: no one really cares about those products. That is why they don't get the publicity. I know some of them are better and richer featured, but it's the iPad that makes headlines, like it or not

The Pirate Bay is the best site to fill up my HDD with crap that get's deleted withing 24h and keeps my ISP busy.
And some dudes believe they loose sales because they count the downloads 😀 And stuff gets downloaded because people can download it. It's a kind of sport for many. They would neither buy the stuff they download nor they actually use it. 😀

[citation][nom]buckinbottoms[/nom]Been noticing a lot of comments disappearing. Readers here are getting a little tired of the iPad reviews and their comments are being removed when expressed.[/citation]
Perhaps you should make sure your comments comply with the Terms of Service, and then they wouldn't need removing. If you want to mouth off at the author then you can expect your comment to disappear. Criticism is not an issue. It's the way that people post that is the issue.

So let me get this straight: You're tired of iPad reviews one whole day after it is released, and yet you cannot resist clicking on an iPad review to read it and then write a comment about the review.
I for one like living in a society where differing personal choices are an option and I have a chance to learn about them. Yeah, the iPad is not my thing either, but I'm glad I know about it and what it is so I can speak intelligently about it.

@SneakySnake (for some reason quote functionality is broken today)

"To put it bluntly: no one really cares about those products. That is why they don't get the publicity. I know some of them are better and richer featured, but it's the iPad that makes headlines, like it or not"

Stop right there for a second. This is a technology site, supposedly. For all the Apple bashing that has been going on, people have repeatedly defended Apple and this site saying that no one should be so biased and closed-minded if they are "really" interested in technology. As another reader said: this is a "society where differing personal choices are an option and I have a chance to learn about them."

Now, you've just basically tossed every competing product to the iPad (released and soon to be released) in one fell swoop.

The reason these other products don't get publicity is because of the mindless masses that will buy anything with an Apple logo on it lately. Our media, including newspapers, magazines, and TV, did ALL the advertising for Apple this time around even. I did not see >ONE< Apple advertisement for the iPad until the day of its release. People praise Apple's marketing, but there was no marketing this time around. It was simply the sheep mentality in full effect.

With that aside, I care about those other products for a few reasons. I care about competition in the market place. I care about equal coverage for equal or BETTER products. Let's face reality for a moment. Every competitor to the iPad, in terms of specifications, is better than the iPad as you said: "better and richer featured." Unfortunately, as with all Apple products, it appears that hype wins over substance.

I cant really knock the iphad and I expect it has it's place on the armchair for some.
TBH, I've owned and ipod touch since conception, and I couldnt be without it. When the battery died I was pretty lost and quickly ordered a brand new one, soldered it in and away I went again.
Excellent for my music, email and quickie web browsing and I'm considering buying the latest gen touch, simply because of the headphone music control, which mine being a first gen, sadly lacks.
Had the iphad been a little smaller, 6 inches say, more pocket size, then it would have been the product of choice. However, the size it is, and the lack of flash puts it out of my usability range and I wont be considering it at this moment in time.
That's my two pennyworth, anyway.

Here's something interesting I just found concerning some problems with the WiFi on the iPad. It is a link to another website. I don't know if you were already aware of it.

Tuan, perception is 90% of reality... What are readers SUPPOSED to perceive when out of the top 24 articles on the front page, 10 are iPad related? When in any product's release has Toms given this much coverage to any other product? The Nehalem? Not even close. Now, you can get all upset if you want to, but I assume that in your position you DO have some say over what articles get published, yeah? So YOU allowed ~40% of all articles posted to be iPad related? A simple yes or no here will suffice... My perception IS that (in this instance at least) Toms is showing bias.

Delete my post if you want, ban me if you want... It still won't change my perception.

Tuan, it is not a question of AN article that some do not like, it is the totality of all of the articles on Toms frontpage that are devoted to the ipad that gives the perception of a certain bias. Perception is 90% of many peoples reality...

For most of this day there have been ~40% of the articles devoted in sum or in part to the ipad. What other product has ever had this kind of coverage? So the perception seems to be just a bit more than coincidence to some here, I among them.

You, as one of the main editors, should have some control over how these articles are presented, as well as how many articles actually make the front page news. Yeah? So, I guess that does give the impression that YOU, Tuan, are to some extent biased as well. How much did Apple pay YOU to approve this many articles for submission to the news?

Delete this post, or ban me. But YOU created this perception, so YOU will only be shooting the messenger.
