how do i change the ide connection inside for a sata, where is the thing and what do i need to do to change it on the m'board?

lol.... gotta love people who dont realise that laptops are barerly upgradeable, let alone changing the HDD interface.

You can not change the EIDE connector to a SATA connector.
Even if you somehow could, an EIDIE controller would not be compatible with a SATA drive.

Sorry, but the hard drive interface is soldered onto the laptop's motherboard. You cannot simply use a laptop E-IDE to SATA adaptor since none exist.

If you want a SATA hard drive, then you need to purchase a new laptop.

if you want a faster hard drive there are a few ide ssd drives but not sure how much faster they would be than the standard ide laptop drive

You can't change the interface, it's build onto the motherboard. If you want a faster hard drive, get a 7200 rpm 2.5" ide hard drive, or find a 2.5" SSD. Hitachi makes several 2.5" 7200rpm drives, and SuperTalent makes 16 & 32gb IDE 2.5" SSD's.
