I heard to do this I will need a dvi port or something. I thought it was a simple as get any hdmi 2.0 and plug into both monitor and laptop.

Also I've heard there's thermal issues with the dell G5 15 SE. Does this also apply to the new intel version?

Solution
The mini dp port is on the left side of the laptop next to the power connector. The Dp connection on the monitor is next to the dvi port opposite the hdmi port(port order is HDMI, DVI-D, DP).

Yes Yes, I understand now. Thank you so much. Last question, do you think I should be worried about screen tearing if the FPS don't match the Hz of monitor? Will I need to get a monitor with gsync instead?

I have that monitor(kinda old now) but never had much of an issue with screen tearing with FPS below 144, but there where a few games that had issue above 144fps and some that would work fine.
