how to connect computer to tv

I have hooked up my Sanyo tv to my Acer laptop using a VGA cord I've also changed all the resolutions. the problem is i dont have a PC Input on my TV and i can carry the screen on my computer completely, but I've tried every imput on my TV and I cant find one that works. I don't know what im doing wrong.
