How to connect hdmi to digital receiver

Guys, this is my first post and y i made this account, so i am going ahead and ask

I have a digital reciever which has a place to place a hdmi cable and also the same on the laptop. So the question is how can i make the laptop screen be shown on my tv from reciever, because i already tried and it didnt change

you really should be listing brand and model numbers for all the equipment involved to give us more information on what ports your equipment has and what they support.

without that information, we would only be guessing as to what your equipment supports and can only give very basic and vague answers.

Since your TV doesn't have HDMI you can't connect it to the receiver with HDMI. Receivers will upconvert to HDMI but I have never heard of a receiver that would downconvert from HDMI.
You will need an HDMI to composite video audio converter to get a picture (just a cable will not work).
