How to connect Samsung Galaxy Tablet without USB port to DVD reader player

I want to connect my Samsung Galaxy Note tablet to a DVD reader/ player. My Samsung is 4,0 versions and it is Android. I used already the USB adapter but it does not read the DVD. Please help.

What you want to do - play DVD movie from player on your tablet, or see tablet screen (somehow) thru DVD player?

What cable did you try if your tablet does not have USB port?
