How to connect to a htc with smart watch

I can't get watch to do anything but connect to answer the phone nothing else. Anything would help.

Since a thread is here for connecting a smartwatch to the device. I would like to know is an android smartwatch of any make compatible with any brands device on android or it has to be the same brand. Like Samsung with a Samsung smartwatch?
