Solved! how to install newer andriod os from lolipop

my phone will not allow me to mount my ds card and allow me to set sd card as a default storage. followed all the instructions but after selecting sd card it does not give me any other option.
will installing different software os allow me to set my sd as a default storage
this is on a Paxial S55 with lollipop 5.1 on it

You cannot set a SD card as "Internal" storage to be able to run apps from it in that version of Android. You have to have at least 6.0. I can't speak to anything involving rooting a device.
