You need to rely on third party apps to transfer your app data or particular app to SD card. As mentioned above i do agree with the solution given by tomesguide. So refer above steps and get your problem resolved.

Stuck on moving to SDcard

I have Alcatel 5054D with a nonrooted Lollipop (5.1.1) on board. I tried to move some apps to SDcard by pressing "Move to SDcard". Some of these apps moved successfully and some stuck in "Moving" state. Uninstall button also stays inactive like the moving process is still working. I tried to reinstall these stuck apps, but they still show "Moving" instead of "Move to SDcard/telephone". Clearing cache, wiping /cache, switching default storage in both ways and rebooting the phone doesn't help either. I do not understand if apps are still in the phone memory or on the card.

Link2Sd doesn't work on non-rooted phones, it simply opens system app window.

Any suggestions?

It depends on the smartphone to smartphone actually. Every smartphone have different way of changing storage phone to SD card. Even i faced same issue with my HTC desire 601. And my bad luck it actually does not have any option to make my SD card as my default storage.

Otherwise, you can go to setting and storage option where you can change your default location easily.

Keep in mind that applications will install on the local storage even with those settings if that is what you are looking to do. The SD card would be used for storing data used by those programs, you can set the option in the particular program options, you will see a "move to sd card" button.

Thank you for the directions. I did it, but does this mean it will only save internet content to the sd card or anything that I download from elsewhere, such as games?

Please understand that not all apps can be moved to your SD card. Some apps must be run on your internal storage in order to function.

In addition, as of Android 4.0, official SD card support was removed from Android devices. What this means is that any device running Android 4.0+ has varying degrees of compatibility when it comes to moving apps to your SD card, ranging from partial transfers to no transfers at all.

If your device is running Android 4.x or 5.x, it is very likely that you will not be able to move apps to your SD card. There are apps in the Play Store that can do this, but the vast majority of them require your device to be rooted.


This feature is returned (in a way) in Android 6.0+ in the form of adoptable storage.
