How to restore acer laptop

Hello,
i have a core 2 duo intel centrino lap top with windows vista and lynx ubuntu on it. Its a old lap top and probably just about near its end. However i was just wanting to wipe it all completely off just so i can either vista or xp on it just so my kids can use it for school.
How do i do this as ive tried the alt and f10 to restore to factory settings but it hasn't worked? Any ideas on how to wipe it all off?

If you have a Vista or XP disk, you can download a program like Darik's Boot and Nuke to wipe the hard drive, then install the program.
