How to tell if your cell phone is fried

My Htc amaze charger (USB) the side that connects to the phone(HTC Amave was very loose and barely allowing it to charge, my buddy rigged a car charger to ba a USB , when plugged in it sparked, now it wont even charge at all with the original charger. Is it fried and if so what part is fried

If you're lucky, the power jack. But it is most likely the main board in the phone. Either way you'll be replacing the phone.. sorry. :/
