how to turn off the 10 key on my lap top keyboard

I have a gateway 10" lap top. I have somehow initiated the 10 key and cannot turn it off. When I type, those keys type numbers instead of letters. I have tried the number lock key but it doesn't help. Any suggestions, I am very computer dumb

i think you may have hit the num lock key

Since I do not know operating system, check keyboard settings in control panel and check if on wrong input format. Also, which I doubt, run system virus scan to make sure something funny isn't there. Last I checked 10key pad with number lock off should do directional movement and all, not letters.

Hi, for a laptop maybe you must use the function (Fn) key with number lock key.
