I have a HP compaq 435 laptop: 2 gb ram : 350 HD : AMD GPU

My problem is, it has no display but everything else is running. The fan, HD, motherboard lights, keyboard lights, I can even hear the disc drive click when I turned it on. But no display whatsoever, no flash no nada, just a blank screen.

Any suggestions and help are well appreciated!

Thanks

Hi, can you try an external monitor, that way you will know if the problem is the screen or the GPU. But it's a LED screen, could be the motherboard also.

Tried external monitor, tried removing and reinstalling the ram, and also tried a different working ram.

That's what I think too. So I've search the net for not so permanent and not costly solution. That is to reflow my GPU myself.

What do you think?

I think it overheated cause there is no fan-heat sink connection to my GPU. Just a metal over the GPU to help it cool. :/

If you can do the reflow, maybe the reflow could help, but not sure. The metal over the other chip is attached to the cooling element, it help to dissipate some heat.

No.. The metal over the GPU is not connected at all. It is only just there against the lower part of the case.

I was looking at the service manual, maybe you have a different version for the cooling assembly. But if it's not attached to anything, it will overheat, bad design.

Yeah I know. When I saw it after I disassembled my laptop, I was like, is this a joke of a heat sink? lol

Well anyway, thanks for the suggestion.

Cheers!

Hey jarotech,

I sent it to the technicians. My reflow didn't work so I'm guessing motherboard problem. Just out of curiosity, is there any fix if the motherboard is problem.

Thanks mate!

The only problem is the GPU, you did the reflow and I said before, it will do nothing, so, a new GPU will be the solution. But don't take my word for that, I could be wrong.
