HP Dell model #PP29L won't come on without being plugged into the charger into the wall what could it be

Just bought a laptop from a friend of mine and the battery won't stay charged it shows that it's charging but whenever I unplug the charger the laptop won't come on it says 0% not plugged in or something like that..anyone know what this may be?

Alls I know is if u unplug it from the charger it doesnt come on at all...but if the charger is plugged in it works just fine

Hard to trouble shoot from this far away, but it sure sounds like a dead battery that won't hold a charge anymore. Have you ever replaced the battery?
