At bootup, HP laptop shows black screen with blinking cursor in top left hand corner. I can't get into Safe mode with the F8 key. System Restore, System Repair or replacing the memory doesn't solve the problem, But when I force a shutdown from the start button and restart, and press F12 it boots up normally. ....Could this be a Boot Manager problem? I haven't added any hardware or software recently, it was working fine 24 hours ago......I did a sweep with Avast, Malwarebytes and Spybot and came up clean. Any suggestions for a diagnosis will be welcome.

Thanks D.

Hi,

Please do try some of these troubleshooting steps that may help in solving that issue.
- Load your laptop into BIOS and set it to defaults, press F9 and select OK then try booting it back up.
- Next is to update all your drivers.
- Here's a link for a firmware update for your HDD: http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp41501-42000/sp41796.exe
- For NVIDIA or graphics driver you can download and install the latest driver from it's support site.
- Here's the link: http://www.nvidia.com/download/index.aspx
- Once installed reboot your laptop.
- Also make sure to run Windows Update and install all important updates.
