HP Elitebook color cycles on boot, please help!

I have an HP Elitebook 8540p laptop that suddenly just quit working. When I turn it on the screen shows up solid red, than blue, green, black, white, and gradient black/white. It rotates through all these color screens before starting the whole cycle over again. It will not allow boot to safe mode or boot from optical drive. Does anyone know what the issue could be and a resolution please?

Hi, you can try this test first, remove the battery and adapter, hold down for one minute the power button. After reconnect the battery and adapter and try to start the laptop.

Thank you for your suggestion Jarotech, your help is appreciated. I tried that and still no change with the issue. In attempt to troubleshoot I connected an external monitor and that worked however the laptop monitor is still color cycling while I work on the external. Would that be a video card issue with the laptop? I am currently running through all the graphics driver updates to try and help it, so far no help either.

Ok, second test, if you can remove the cable from the screen and reconnect after, maybe you have a bad connection.
