Hey all. Mom's has a HP ProBook 450G1 where CD/DVD drive won't work. It sounds like it's doing a lot of clicking and trying to run but it just won't. I'd like to replace it but not sure what to buy. I can only find used HP versions available. Does anyone know if aftermarket is available?

Thx,
Ron

You are very unlikely to find an aftermarket direct replacement. A few options:
  • Buy an USB external drive
  • Buy a new drive from HP if they still make it
  • But a used one and take your chances
Keep in mind there is a chance the problem is with interface electronics on the motherboard and a replacement drive will have the same problem.

Ok thanks everyone for the help. I'll look into the different options you all listed.
