I bought a 720p Tv, I also purcahsed an Antenna that says new will work with 1080p. Cn I use this anntena to get basic channel

It will work, but you will only see 67% (720 divided by 1080) of the picture.

The antenna has nothing to do with the number of pixels. That is dependent on the station and your TV.
Since broadcast TV is usually 1080i (interlaced which is the equivalent of 540p) or 720p you will be fine.
