Alright, so the application in question is Corel Videostudio Pro X6. I have been using it for quite some time and it's been working fine up until a few days ago and now it won't launch at all. There's no error message, nothing pops up, I click on it and nothing happens.

I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling it, running it as an administrator, running it in compatability mode, and nothing works.

I did go into the Event Viewer and this is what I got:

Faulting application name: vstudio.exe, version: 16.0.0.0, time stamp: 0x51c07e76

Solution
Hi,

Just have a look to the following forum : http://forum.corel.com/EN/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=58668
The reason of your problem: a recent update of windows, especially if you are using windows 7
The solution: uninstall the two window's updates, KB 3126587 and KB3126593. Hide them. Do not accept now automatic updates.
This is probably a temporary solution but it works for many videostudio versions, probably for all.
There is also a hotfix solution from Corel for videostudio x8 and only for this version. However it does not solve everything. For example in my case (I do use videostudio X8), the software did not worked with *.mov videos and I had to unistall the two above updates to make videostudio work correctly.

When I try to install the service pack it says:
The installed version of the application could not be determined. The setup will now terminate.

Don't bother contacting Corel. They'll simply tell you that x6 is no longer spotted and that you should either buy the latest version or take the free upgrade to Windows 10.

You're experiencing the same problem that all of us using older Corel products have experienced.

The problem stems from a security update released for Windows 7 by Microsoft. What you have to do is go into control panel, programs, view your update history and uninstall following security updates as well as prevent them from reinstalling.

KB312587
and
KB3126593

Once these are uninstalled restart your system and the program should start working again.

I am having the same issues-- on both my laptop and desktop. Both worked fine for years and now suddenly won't load. We reinstalled to no avail.

I followed all the instructions in this topic, and yet the problem continue to have it.

I looked for updates and 3126587 KB KB3126593 but I found installed on my system only 3126587 KB. Uninstalled it, I did a full clean disk "C", I noted the option Windows Update Cleanup, then you restart the system, but the problem I have it again!

Windows 7, Corel VS X6, as of 11/2/2016, these Windows updates cause this problem of X6 not starting. You must go in and uninstall them in control panel, unless Corel has decided to patch X6. I just added the last one a couple weeks ago when it quit working again.
