I do no want to use my earbud's microphone, but instead my laptop's built in microphone. How?

I have a pair of really good sounding earbuds, but the microphone is garbage, has static and is quiet. I want to use the earbuds for sound and rely on the laptop's built in microphone. Right clicking on the sound in the bottom left and going to playback devices does not show any indication that there are headphones plugged in, nor does going to recording devices show different types of microphones. Following some HP instructions, I had to delete the audio driver and re-install the chipset and update the bios. For a while that worked, but now it has reverted. Is there a simpler way to fix this, this seems like such an easy problem. I have a Bang & Olufsen Omen laptop if it helps.

Isn't there some Control Panel\ hardware and sound\ manage audio devices option? It really sounds like a few click fix kind of a problem. Hope someone will have better instructions than me :)
