I have a desktop with Windows 8 I can't get my keyboard or mouse to work it was my cat any ideas on how to get them back on?

Mouse and keyboard doesn't work on my desktop I have Windows 8 how do I turn them back on

It's hard to see how a cat could do that on a PC keyboard and mouse - two separate units - but she might have yanked the USB cables out of the back.
