I have a problem with my hp pavillion dv6 laptop.

When i turn's it on,everything's fine i mean no beep or anything like that.But the problem is,there's nothing on the laptop screen.I mean it stays totally dark even though the pc's running.I showed it to a technician here and he said the problem is with display chip.Is it true?If it is then what should i do?And if it isn't then what?

try hooking up an external display to see if it's the actual display or the graphics chip... either one can be replaced. make sure it's not set to output to the external display fn+f8 i think it is
