I have a Samsung HW-K450 and a samsung 55" UN55J6200AFXZA/UN55J6201AFXZA not getting HDMI sound

the samsung TV has a HDMI 1 (STB) and HDMI 2(DVI) but there is zero sound being produced when the sound bar is set to HDMI while I am watching TV so I have it going through the optic cable which is just okay sound. Is it possible for me to get sound through the HDMI or does the TV need to have a HDMI ARC?

Both the TV and soundbar need to have ARC for it to work. Your TV doesn't.
The optical connection will be fine. In this case there would be no improvement in sound to using HDMI ARC.
