I have right voltage charger with wrong plug in for HP pavilion. What are diy options?

So the plug in is o e with two(-&+)holes and my laptop takes the round cylinder with small pin in center. My situation does not allow for replacement for some time. I am knowledgeable with electronics but looking for diy advice. I have many extra adapters and wire to work with. Some need to apply the correct + & - to the correct positions and am seeking information with further knowledge to make sure I'm not missing something. Should I run power to the battery or to the power port. I am thinking the usb port wouldn't be safe for the laptop pushing 19 volts in. Any suggestions?

Try posting a picture of the new plug and do you have the correct "round cylinder with small pin in center" from the old charger?

I have a plug with two holes and the lap top requires the one with the cylinder and pin in center.

Maybe the right question is which is positive, the central hole in the laptop or where the cylinder makes contact?
