I have Windows Vista and have no sound

Yes I have Win Vista 64 and I have been trying for days to get the sound back. I have an Hp Pavilion dv5000. I bought this computer just like it is and can't find any previous versions or backups. Please help I am to the point where I would go back to 32 if it is easy to do. Any help would do.
