I either get the msi gt685-818us, with a gtx 580m with a Intel Core i5 - 2430m.
Or a MSI GT780DXR with a gtx 570m with an Intel Core i7 - 2670Qm.

Both have 8g of ram.

So either a 570m with an I7 or a 580m with an I5.

They would prob cost around the same amount of money.

Thanks!

MSI GT780DXR with the i7 - 2670Qm is much better than the MSI GT685-818US with the Core i5 - 2430m at multitasking and application performance

http://www.notebookcheck.net/Intel-Core-i5-2430M-Notebook-Processor.53435.0.html

however the 580M would outperform the 570m at graphics rendering (gaming) by a 30% margin

since i would think you would use the notebook for a lot more than gaming, the MSI GT780DXR would be better suited.

Thanks for the answer.

Actuly one of the only think ill do with the lapot is play games.

After doing this post I saw this video: http://forums.ncix.com/forums/topic.php?id=2467245.

And that gave me good information on what to chose.

That was very smart of you. I think I kind of liked it as well. But one thing I am not very comfortable with is the price. I really don't know your thoughts about that. Please let us know if the price is ok with you...?

Well after reading a lot. I still dont know what to do.
Many think that the I5 is going to bottleneck the 580m.
Some think that the 570m with an I7 might be able to outperform the I5/580m but there does not seem to be any test done.

I see many that says if you dont have a I7 some game will be suffering like BF3. But I dont play that game.

I mostly play and will play Skyrim, Diablo 3 (and other games like it, dungeaon seige 3 ect...) SC2 and MMOS.

So in my case, would the I5 really be a prob with a 580m??

logic would dictate that MSI would not sell a CPU/GPU configuration that would bottleneck. do these people know more than MSI?

an I5 would NOT bottleneck ANY single GPU. just google "I5 bottleneck" to see the answer.

NO GAME uses more than 2-3 cores with BF3 being the exception and even in that case a quad core is more than enough. the only difference between the I5 and I7 is the I7 has hyper threading which would make it better at multitasking and video encoding; software that would use the threading. the 0.1 Mgz speed is not going to make a noticeable difference in single core applications.

games rely on the GPU more than the CPU. with the I5 and I7 being so close in speed the GPU would make the difference, so therefore the 580M, being 30% better at performing, would take the prize.
