I need help!!! This is the weirdest thing I have ever experienced!

Hello everyone,

I have this laptop that is HP 350 G2.

It all worked well, until this day about one month ago, when I went and visited my sister abroad in a hospital. Why am I mentioning this, is because this might be the cause of the problem, either it got irradiated on border-control when I forgot to pull it out of my bag, or when the problem first appeared it happened right after my sister got an ultra-sound belly view.

And those lines and glitches aren't static, they move like crazy, and the background is like the Matrix, just weird.


Anytime my laptop stays idle without any outside input, for 3 to 10 minutes the screen becomes like that, and it becomes unusable.

At first viewing youtube videos would count as an input, but now it glitches out like that even when I am watching youtube videos, I need to constantly move my mouse or do something in order to prevent it.

When it happens I just need to restart my laptop and it goes back to normal again!

I don't know what it could be, but it is driving me nuts, the warranty of my laptop has just passed 3 months ago, so I am really pissed of.

Any help as to why it could be happening? or any help in possibly fixing it? or at least just some input?
I would greatly appreciate it, I am sorry if this is the wrong forum, for these type of questions, but I am really desperate.

I had travel with laptops and I never encountered any thing like that.
Ultra-sound might damage a hard disk drive but wouldn't cause that damage.
That looks like the graphics chip is failing. It could have been cheaply soldered to the motherboard.

So you think changing the graphics chip would help?

When I bought this laptop, it was brand new, how could it have been cheaply soldered!?

Anything besides the graphics chip that could have caused this?

The frequency of this happening, is increasing every time it happens more and more often!

I can't enjoy it anymore, I must be on guard all the time

This reminds me of an ex-gf's all-in-one system.

The symptoms were somewhat like what your screenshots show. In her case, it was the graphics card. Since it was an all-in-one, it used a laptop type of graphics card, and was replaceable. Getting another graphics card of the same type fixed it.

I can't be sure if it's the same situation with yours, but the symptoms look similar.

So should I thing that it is solved, that it is absolutely the graphics card, or should I wait for other opinions before buying a new graphics card?

What other things might cause this Matrix glitch?

Attach an external monitor. If it continues then it is most likely the GPU. If not, then the monitor or ribbon is the issue.

I though that the monitor ribbon could be, but it wouldn't fix just by restarting the laptop!

I might try if I find a monitor!

Try what shmoochie suggested above, just to cover all bases.
When the ribbon is faulty, moving the screen or the laptop causes the issue.
There are two motherboard versions for your laptop, one with integrated Intel graphics (which does not suffer from that issue) and another with dedicated graphics chip.
These chips are non-replaceable (unless you have the equipment and the skills) since they are soldered to the motherboard.
If the graphics chips is the issue, then you might need to replace the motherboard.

That is a sad news, but I think this is solved, could a technician fix it without changing the motherboard?

Depending of the tech skills, they might be able to fix it, some may do a patch job (issue returns after a couple of months) and it could cost you more than replacing the motherboard.

The laptop has an integrated video, it won't be fixed without replacing the CPU which is almost certainly soldered to the motherboard in that model. There is no extra video chip to replace. You would want to make sure issue comes up with an external screen also, but it looks like 90% certain it's the video card.

You can try different RAM, also try to re-do the headsink with new thermal paste. Since the system uses shared RAM for the video card, a RAM issue could cause video defects and too much heat can also cause issues with video glitches. Those are not as likely as simply the video being bad, or even the screen itself being an issue.

Did you try a clean Windows setup? That would rule out any issues with software, while the chance is small it is that, getting rid of anything else that may be possible would lead you to the right thing that IS causing the issue. Remember to keep backups of your files and settings you want to note since factory restore will wipe the system to like it was new.
