I pressed the power button and the light would come on, the fan would run, the screen would stay off, for about 5 seconds and then the light would go off, a click would sound and the fan would turn off.i have toshiba satellite M645

Sounds too warm, use a vacuum with soft brush and clean all the vents. Keep the laptop operating on flat surface at all times.
