Been using IE8 for sometime, but just recently, when doing a normal click on the back button, sometimes 3 or 4 times, nothing happens. But clicking, and holding the mouse button down for a couple of secs works. Have not added any addons or changed settings.

Hey try this if its x64.

"I have Win7 and IE8, it is a 64 bit machine

I tried several remedies and finally saw that:

Start button/all programs/scroll up and down list/mine had and I think should be on all 64 bit machines - internet explorer 64 bit/make a shortcut of this to your desktop/and/or pin to task bar.

When you use ie be sure to use the 64 bit version.

By the way, for those whose preferences for "do not suggest query" will not save, be sure to go in: tools/internet options/browsing history - make sure check box is UNchecked (that answer I did see somehwere else but it worked on mine :))"

Thanks Nikorr, but I am still on 32bit architecture.

Maybe you can try the solutions mentioned on -

http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en/w7itproui/thread/534d6d7a-67a2-4148-9a3a-dfdff8dd6e5e

If that doesn't work, try resetting IE.

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/318378

In the above Microsoft KB article, follow the Method 1 instructions under
"Let me fix it myself" section.

Just a small advice. Help web developers by using atleast IE 9 (if you running Windows Vista/7) or switch to better web browser like Chrome/Firefox/Opera (Safari on Windows is really bad).
Thanks, but on XP, can't use ie9. And I have used ie since 4, or 5, and although people say something else is better, I have very very few reasons to switch to something else. And this little nuance is no reason enough to. Appreciate your comment, though !

OK. And yes, when other people say something else is better, they are absolutely right. Try Opera or Firefox and you will be really impressed.

I am sure that the reply marked 'Answer' in this Microsft Answer thread is going to resolve your problem-

More specifically try the "Repair Script" part in the above answer of the thread.

All "things" do not work for all people - It is like removing virus or malware, just because we have the same infection, the same removal may not work.

With regards to Firefox, The add on for web browser for Zone Alarm isn't compatible. I do maintain a couple of browsers, just what you get used to using, i guess.

I agree that I am not a technical expert like you to argue with you, but I thought that would work because it was not a solution for just your problem, it was a script that totally re-sets IE configuration.

If the repair script does not work, a very strange problem indeed. Might be a new problem, I never had any problems with IE 8 when I used to use it in July 2010 - until I finally dumped it for Firefox and then dumped Firefox for Opera.

Well, I finally decided to use Firefox on a more regular basis. I have had it on the desktop for quite some time. After a week of use, and getting accustomed to the subtle differences, as you previously mentioned, I would be quite impressed, and I am. The load speed and connection speed as well as tab browsing speed puts IE8 to shame. Old Dogs can learn new tricks !). Only 'con' I see so far is Zone Alarm's Security Engine is not compatible, but I have other security in place, and so far have not experienced any issues. Thanks for prodding me to use Firefox !
