If laptop dvd-rom is not picking what should i do

If the drive is the type where the drawer opens and you can see the laser lens try cleaning it VERY gently with a cottonwool bud soaked in alcohol and then dry off with the dry end of the bud. Hold the bud by the far end to reduce pressure on the lens mechanism.

If the drive is removable from the laptop (in a caddy which plugs in) you may have to look for a replacement. If not, it's probably left to a repair guy as dismantling a modern slim laptop without damaging it can be difficult.
