Check out titan.tv They have a good antenna selector. You will always get a more solid signal with external, but you might not need it.

Outdoor for sure. Only use indoor DTV antennas if you have no choice. Best indoor one I've used is the Terk TV55 which is not small, not cheap and must be able to be positioned correctly.

Agreed, outdoor 100% if you can, but like me, i can't use one, an indoor works just fine here in denver.
