Question Instant turn off at 50% battery power

Hi all, my HP 15-AC notebook turns off instantly at 50% battery power (unplugged) and i’m unable to turn it on without using the charging adapter. Once it turns on the battery shows it’s charging from 50% upwards. At time the battery doesn’t charge above 97% percentage top. The battery is one year old. Is the battery defective at this point or is something else? TIA

Unfortunately, it sounds like you need a new battery.
