Intel Core Processors??

I'm looking at Apple Macs, but I'm having a hard time understanding the difference between the i5 5th generation and the i7 4th generation. I don't know much about processors, or even computers. Please help!!!!

The i5s are quad cores, the i7s are quad cores with Hyper-Threading: 4 cores/4 threads vs 4 cores/8 threads.
The 5th generation is 2 generations older than the 7th generation, as the numbers would imply. The later gen is faster with some other performance perks over the older gen.

If you can list the exact i5 and i7 you are considering, we can show you performance differences.
