Internal Webcam malfunctioning

Model: Aspire M5-481T

Built in webcam disconnects and re connects whenever in use.

its listed when not in use
but when in use :

to be more precise, it disconnects and reconnects at about 1 second intervals

while using the installed webcam software, it shows that prompt, i get an image for half a second and i get the message again

ive tried:

uninstalling and re installing the camera software
uninstalling HD Webcam drivers and let windows re install them

skype used to be about the only program that works with the webcam but now not even that

please help?

no its windows 7 home premium 64 bit and thats the os that came with the laptop

Sounds like a faulty camera. This may seem like an odd suggestion, but have you tried reinstalling the driver once the camera disappears from Device Manager?
