IP address problems

I have all my RTV's set to "Manual" for IP selection but some of them
keep reverting to DHCP assignments. For example, I set the router to
assign DHCP addresses from a range of 2 to 50 (i.e. 192.168.0.8).
Anything from 51 and up is supposed to be static. The router is a
Netgear WGR614 v4. The RTVs are all set to manual with correct DNS and
gateway assignments. An example is IP= 192.168.0.61 Netmask=
255.255.255.0 Gateway & DNS1 both set to 192.168.0.1.

When I set it up (or re-set it up) it connects and uses the manual IP
correctly. However, after 24 hours or so I find that, even thought the
RTV settings still show Manual and the IP selected in Network Settings,
the RTV has actually reverted to a DHCP address of, say, 192.168.0.8.
Does anybody know how/why this is happening and have any ideas for a
solution?

Looks like you've found the DHCP bug people are talking about. The
Replay always uses DHCP whenever a DHCP server is available. The best
way to avoid this is to use a "reserved IP". Some routers can be set
to always assign a particular IP to that hardware. If your router
doesn't do this, you can disable DHCP (requiring you to set static on
ALL devices on your network), or you can use a static DHCP program
like the one at http/ruttkamp.gmxhome.de/dhcpsrv/dhcpsrv.htm (takes
a little intelligence to set up, but works fine). I've used this for
several months now, and haven't had any more DHCP problems with my 3
Replays.

Thanks, that clears it up. I always used address reservation on my old
Netgear MR814 but the same feature on the Netgear WGR614 seems to not
work correctly. I'll look at the software you mentioned and also see
about just getting rid of DHCP altogether.
