Do they honestly believe they can predict app sales 4 years in the future?

4 years ago there was no Android and the original iPhone was just 6 month old.

So on average each of their ~40 million users has downloaded around 75 apps each? I find that a little hard to believe, or that perhaps they are messing with the numbers by including updates or preloaded apps or something.

i am an android phone user, i don't see any need to get a tablet. tapping text on a big touch screen is silly. maybe at last ppl would realize a bigger screen phone + light weight notebook/ netbook is more practical

You must count the fact that every time the thing crashes and it gets restored, all the user's apps are re-installed again on the device. That is, if the user bothered to do a sync before that, otherwise he needs to get them manually. PITA.

I own a tablet (Iconia A500) and have found productive uses for it. I can refer to my notes on it while doing my work at college.

Granted, not everybody will have a use for a tablet PC but I also use it to stream movies to the lounge room TV, which will soon be overrun by my Galaxy Nexus when my HDMI/MTL adapter arrives.

On another note, 90% of the applications out there are useless and must be avoided. Apple users being of a lesser tech-intelligence grade than Android users are more apt to download useless apps. The truth is that I keep less than 3% of the apps downloaded. No I dont want my device's ram chocked up with useless apps for things like reading the New York Times, assuming people still read that warmongering propaganda rag; I can visit their website with a Dolphin browser and have a better experience than with their rotten app.

Thanks but no thanks Apple. The fact that dumb people cluelessly download apps that they don't use is not a good reason to buy your crappy iPhone.

Stop bragging about your elcheapo 512 meg of ram device. The more you do that the more you give people who know what is going on a chance to dump on you.

A break down in the types of Apps downloaded would be interesting.

I remain perplexed as to why Tom's is being used as a forum to spread Apple propaganda. I know that Apple is in cahoots with the MSM, but I thought Tom was a node above Apple's nefarious grip. It has been precisely as a result of the MSM favorable coverage of Apple's sub-par drm infested hardware that Apple has managed to hoodwink and cowed a large swath of the technologically preliterate populace into buying their locked-down exorbitant coffin laptops and phones.

Being a sophmore in highschool...I only understand about 1/4 if what you said there.

I replaced my M17xR3 with a desktop a few weeks ago (the girlfriend needed a new gaming laptop anyway), and now use my iPad 2 basically as my laptop. I wouldn't conduct business on it - not without a bluetooth keyboard anyway - but it works well for the majority of my non-gaming (and even some gaming) uses.

My iPad has probably 60-70 apps, if not more. It's not hard to beleive, unless you use Android Market for your apps I guess...

Kind of tired of hearing the Apple users are so stupid they will do anything line of crap. The truth the average Apple user is equal or higher in intelligence than the average Android user.

Android users on these forums are like PC builders on these forums. They think everyone gets Android because they love to tinker with all the settings, install custom builds, jailbreak thier phones etc. When the truth is that the overwhelming majority of people buying smartphones do none of those things. The most they end up doing is downloading a few apps from the offical appstores (never, ever visiting any other app site) and prefer to use their phone for it's intended purpose.....you know making phone calls, taking pictures they can send to their friends and family and texting. I bet you would be hard pressed to find that 3 out of 10 people have even changed simple things like their wallpaper images from the default, just like you find grass and clouds on the majority of windows desktops.

Most people buy smartphones, tablets and computers to use them not tinker with them.

Hardly. It would be impossible to ship a device that does everything a person needs without adding in a bunch of crap another person doesn't need. Hence you get Apps to do what your specific needs are.

Plus a lot of those Apps are the types of things that are specific to a company or organization. They're not comprised of 10,000 versions of a few useful Apps, as people (wrongfully) try to suggest.

For example, banks. Most banks have Apps specifically to allows users easy access to their accounts without having to use a browser. Multiply this by the number of banks and credit unions and there's a lot of Apps. Many schools have their own Apps. Sports teams too. The list is practically endless, which is why the number of Apps seems endless.

I know of some local iOS developers who specialize in creating Apps for small businesses. It used to be that you needed to have a website for your business. Now people are finding that it's a benefit to have an App custom tailored for your business as well.
