iPAQ as a monitor?

Hello, I own an ipaq 5550 and I wish to use it to view video feed from a security camera ( so I can adjust the view of the camera right on location). I know that I need BNC on one side of the cable (from the camera) and I need a sync connection at the ipaq, what i need to know is the pinout of the sync connector so I can find out which is the video input(if there is one). Im not entirely sure if i can use the ipaq simply as a monitor or not and what sort of software to use, if any will be needed. If anyone has any sort of idea that would be awesome. Thank you very much

What you are seeking to do is not feasible. There is no facility for a
direct video feed into any iPAQ. The nearest solution would be to feed the
signal into a computer that could stream the video wirelessly to your iPAQ.
Video cameras output an NTSC signal, which is completely incompatible with
the display of any PDA.

Hi!

(a) If the IPAQ is not going to be used on the field but on a fixed
position, you should use a webcam on a regular PC, even there are some
wireless models. On the wired side, a Logitech 4000 Pro delivers excellent
picture quality and is relatively inexpensive for its capabilities. Also,
you have to stream the video to your Ipaq using the wifi adaptor.
Let´s do some math about the WiFi: the 802.11b standard refers to 11MBPS,
but the real throughput you can expect is about 7.7MBPS sustained at maximum
signal strenght or close to ideal situations. If the signal becomes weaker,
you can expect to reach rates as low as 1MBPS. These specs are ok to video
streaming on regular machines, but on the device the processing power is
fairly limited on 400 Mhz models, so don´t expect to get 30 fps at 240x320
at a realtime fashion.
A realistic approach is to get useable rates in the range of 250 kbps to
obtain 15 fps (or so) at a smaller resolution (some players can stretch the
image to full screen, but then the pixellation becomes noticeable). Also
keep in mind the battery is depleted after an hour (or so) with WiFi on, you
have to run your survellaince monitoring with external power, this can limit
your freedom to move.

(b) If you attempt to use your device as a mobile TV monitor to act as a
viewfinder on the field, you can consider to get a TV tuner sleeve for the
5000 series. This could let you watch a regular NTSC signal on your IPAQ.
Should the sleeve has not a BNC connector, I think the image quality can be
ok if you make physical contact with the inner coaxial wire to the
telescopic antenna on the sleeve (provided the antenna is metallic and not
covered by a plastic film, etc.). Unfortunately I cannot recommend any model
'cause in Argentina this sleeves are very rare.
