Is a AMD Radeon HD 7970m compatible with my Alienware M17X R3?

Hello, i am upgrading a dead hd 6970m in my laptop. on ebay the socket says that it is a "mxm 3b" but it also says in broken english that "the main board number must match the gpu number" but 99.9% percent sure that my motherboard has a mxm 3.0b gpu slot on it but i need to be 100% sure because i dont want to drop 200 bucks on something that my motherboard doesnt even support.

should work.heck even my old m15x r2 with an i7-720qm runs the 7970m(from a gtx 460m) but with a modded vbios off course.i suggest looking at other forums for vbios mod/config.here is a few link to get u started.

ok, but what is vbios? is it video bios? how do i install it?

going to buy AMD Radeon HD 7970m
16GB DDR3 Memory
1TB+750GB HDD
17.3" 1920x1080 120hz IPS Glass Screen
No Windows

i suggest following the link i show you.there is a lot of detail on how to do it properly.vbios is video bios.its affect your card clock speed,voltage and etc.

The i7 should be fine for the 7970m.
