Hello i have HP 2570p Elitebook with i7 3520m.. i added to him stick of 4gb ram( so now i have 8 ram), 500gb ssd, and a 960gtx 2gb using EXP GDC v8.0 adapter with a 430W Seasonic S12 PSU..
my performance is pretty amazing, the gpu that i added increasred the performance by far, almost doubled the fps.
right now im playying only csgo (the pc sits on Dock station connected to a 24'' 144hz monitor, mouse and keyboard..)
i want to upgrade my pc, and im not sure if should i buy a motherboard, cpu, ram and combine the PSU, SSD and GPU that i already have, or just upgrade the laptop cpu..(?)
i dont need massive performance, and i heard about i7 3740QM that might be the best option for me and can sit properly in the socket im using.. but what about the heat and stuff.. will it be possible?
im sure that the replacing the cpu in my laptop wont be a problem to me, but will it work?

btw how about buying it from here:

Question from adarc8 : "upgrade cpu from i7 3520m to 3740qm.. worth it?"

your cpu has a pga socket FCPGA988 so it is upgradable

here more infos
http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/answers/id-3430499/cpu-upgradeable-laptops.html

https://ark.intel.com/it/products/64893/Intel-Core-i7-3520M-Processor-4M-Cache-up-to-3_60-GHz

that cpu i7-3520M is 35w TDP and that i7-3740qm is hotter
https://ark.intel.com/products/70847/Intel-Core-i7-3740QM-Processor-6M-Cache-up-to-3_70-GHz

you need to check your bios because a new cpu needs a bios support

here a list of cpus with the same socket

If it's socketed (may not be), and if that laptop was offered with the 3740QM as a factory option, it will probably work. If that CPU was never offered in it, you'll very likely have cooling issues.

you already have the fastest supported CPU. while the 3740 may fit the socket it is unknown if the BIOS will recognize the CPU - being a quad core octa-thread unit, all supported chips are dual core quad thread CPU's
I do not think it will work.
https://www.manualslib.com/manual/626288/Hp-Elitebook-2570p.html?page=9#manual
the service manual for that unit, page 9 shows the supported CPU's and all are 2c-4t units.
page 93 shows a socketed CPU, non soldered

not upgrade, full custom written BIOS. you'll maybe need more power and more efficient cooling & kiss all battery life goodbye.
I don't know if that is even possible, a new unit would be cheaper methinks

the trade-off of a laptop is very limited upgrade path, its more like a step.

If it was never offered with a 45w CPU, chances are good the motherboard doesn't have the physical power circuitry to handle one.

in order asked.
No. not without a lot of expensive equipment and a good electrical engineer to make a brand new adapter. the motherboard was designed to power and run the CPU it has in it- maximum. no wiggle room. none of the needed power regulators, chokes, capacitors, and other circuitry needed to make it ready for the 4c-8t CPU.

The larger battery is simply a larger reservoir, the energy output from the contacts is exactly the same as yours (assuming the same model). like soda cups, he has the 54Oz cup and you have the 32 oz. the straw is the same size. you need a bigger straw and the missing parts to use the power delivered via the straw

update guys!!
i just talked with a pc guy, that had the same laptop as me 2570p and he said:
"I.. and many other 2570P owners, removed the factory i5/i7 CPU and installed a i7 quad core (i7-3740QM, i7-3720QM, i7-3630QM, i7-3610QM). No praying necessary. It works great."

Did you have to do DSDT Override when you connected your eGPU to your laptop using expresscard cable?
