Hi all,

I am considering an upgrade to my notebook's RAM. I keep finding Kingmax
200pin SO-Dimms to be consistently half the price of other notebook RAM. I
am interested in the 1Gb PC-2700 DDR333 - however I am warey of the old
addage; "you get what you paid for..."

Anyone with any info on this memory manufacturer - any experiences good or
bad?

Thanks.

I bought 2 512 MB PC2700 Kingmax sticks. Unfortunately, my laptop ships
home today, so I have no experience with it yet.

But half price? I hope you're exaggerating, or I just wasted a lot of
money.

I'm using two of these SODIMMs in my Asus M6Ne, bought in July. One of
the SODIMMs failed within 3 weeks of using the system, and was replaced
for free. No other problems since then. I should note that the failure
was heat-related, it was a hot summer here in Los Angeles and I was
working in 90F ambient temperatures non-stop for 15+ hours when the
failure occurred. MobileMeter showed that my CPU temp was above 80C most
of that time, and the SODIMM that failed was the one closest to the CPU.
(And the datasheets for these modules indicates their maximum operating
temperature is only 70C.)

After replacing that module I also bought a Targus notebook cooler. It
doesn't seem to have any measurable effect on my CPU temp but it does
lower my HD temp by about 10-15C (again according to MobileMeter).

Now that temperatures are cooler I haven't seen my CPU temp go above
66C. I guess next summer I'll have to watch out or work in cooler spaces.
