Is this laptop any good for gaming?

Yes and no, you can play most games on it at low settings. But do not expect Crysis 3 or Metro Last Light or that sort of thing to run on it.

It does not have a discreet card, which is necessary for any sort of decent gaming.

you wont be able to play gta well at all since it only has half a gig of vram.call of duty probably at medium settings, minecraft will probably run okay. its not really designed to be a gaming computer

It has no VRAM whatsoever.
Its an APU and has video allocated RAM. Wish can be increased in size to up to 2.5GB in most cases if the BIOS is not locked on that feature.

i knew it was an apu, and from what i understood the one in that laptop has 512 megs. i didnt realize it wasnt called vram, i knew that it was taken from system memory. as for increasing the size of the allocated memory all of the branded laptops i have seen (dell hp and my own mac lol) i was unable to increase the size in bios. although i know that it just depends on the specific laptop

Good, keep in mind VRAM is A LOT different from the RAM used by an APU, VRAM implies better performance thanks to lower latency and higher bandwidth, so don't use it unless it on a discreet GPU.
