Great, this will just be another excuse for them to raise our internet bills. "We have to charge you all more so we can afford to pay back big media."

[citation][nom]chunkymonster[/nom]They can pass the law but it will never stand up to legislative scrutiny.[/citation]The way things are going you are foolish to say that with absolute certainty.
[citation][nom]chunkymonster[/nom]It's articles like this that actually make me happy I am a card carrying member of both the ACLU and the NRA.[/citation]Wow you're a card carrying member of two organizations which are practically polar opposites, impressive.

Big Brother gets even bigger..and now, he's super-accelerated using the latest GPGPU technology.

Alas, if you're from Russia or China (or operate U.S. defence, intelligence and surveillance operations, including from these regions), maybe you have less cause for concern.

Still, the next time someone enters the U.S. illegally and proceeds to slaughter innocent American's..who shall we sue? The next time yet another war (what many considered to be illegal), is fought against the wishes of the American people..who shall we sue? Where does it end? The next time our money is thrown at the banks..do I need to go on? It's on their watch after all..and they do after all, claim to be responsible.

Enough people voted the loonies into the Whitehouse..and this is the result.

it's just a money game, since those Film, Music company will lose more money to sue the user who do the illegal download. it will be a lot easier to sue the ISP firm and make up their loses.
Screw those greedy film and music company ripping our wallet and giving used their crappy product !!!!

While I am against this, we have to consider something.

The internet has been a lawless and chaotic community full of anonymous drifters for many many years now, and did we really expect it to last forever?
The internet for has been a sorce of freedom, even to a point of excess, for many people.

Now if you excuse me, I have to go upload some games so others may share in our immoral and chaotic delight.

Well...so... next time someone google´s something illegal and finds results in Goolgle, Google must be held responsible for facilitating access to forbiden material, and ISP must be responsible too because they did nothing to prevent someone from using their service to access another service to do an illigal search. LOL

Now serioulsly how will ISP be able to know the difference from an illigal download from a legal without monitoring, wich means they are violating our privacy.

And how will the ISP consider if something is illigal? Are they aware of all the copyrighted material from all over the worls?

How will they distinguish the differnce from a legit download of a game from an illigal one, example an online store from an ordinary website?

I think this is not possible to be achieve by the ISP´s, it´s just impossible to know every little thing that exists on the WWW at any give moment.

I think people are seriously miss informed if they think that the ISP's cannot see what you are downloading. Ever heard of packet sniffing and honeypots!!!!!!!
Has no one on here ever seen a post about someone getting a letter from there ISP with timestamps etc of files that have been downloaded?
They have the power to do this now and EVERYONE that downloads stuff should be VERY worried if these things go ahead.

Why don't WE sue the companies & Politicians who support this bullshit for harassment?

Or sue the record label for making the music available to be pirated.

Yeah, if Paramount DIDN'T make Star Trek, it wouldn't be PIRATED.

I've seen some DL/Pirated movies... even the best look like crap compared to typical DVDs. Here is what will happen. (A) I will STILL buy Star Trek on Blu-Ray and (B) I can live my entire life without ever seeing Transformers 2 again, what a boring stupid movie.

Isn't there some report that some of the biggest buyers of CDs / legit music... have pirated the music?

Oh... Panadora is free. Works better than a real radio too. Hear much more and better music.

Yet another black mark on humanity for not fighting for human rights! It all has to do with big companies forcing our hand and others to do their bidding for the sake of the all mighty dollar.

[citation][nom]mlopinto2k1[/nom]As I see it, anyone who thinks this is a bad idea pirates software. Why else would anyone be against it? If your activities on the internet are harmless, this won't affect you ONE BIT. To sit here and come up with EXCUSE after EXCUSE makes me want to vomit on my keyboard.[/citation]

I fully agree with you. But unlike you, I alredy vomitted :(

So I guess everyone will just force encryption on their torrent clients, if they aren't doing it already? The RIAA and MP guys will never win. They didn't embrace the internet when they had the chance and have been trying to catch up every since with legislation.

I forgot to mention how much I hate lobbyists. They work against the will of the people, hell, half of them used to work in Washington.

Wait a second...so we're about to ok this? We're going to make the ISP police music and movies...trivial things. But we don't expect them to police child porn? Where are our priorities. Since there's no money in child porn...who cares right? I'm sick and tired of our government. No, it's not the worst in the world...but God, it could be a lot better if we weren't run by greedy politicians who will take a buck and sell their souls.

Bad idea. If someone hits someone with a car, should the automaker be held accountable? If I take my computer monitor and throw it at someone, should the maker of the monitor be held accountable?

The reason we don't hold monitor makers, auto makers, gun makers and yes, ISP's accountable is because they cannot control what we do with their product.

Even more so if we give an ISP the right to police its customers access, then aren't we handing over censorship to a private entity? Whats to prevent them from censoring free speech? Think of all the little things an ISP could do, they couldn't outright block everything but they could certainly be sneaky about what you can and cannot see.

Then there is cost. ISP's aren't hurting (contrary to their claims), but to police EVERY internet user will require time, money, and lots of people (which also need time and money by themselves).
