Issue with YouTube app (android)

I always use YouTube at 144P since I have satllite internet at home with 20gb (unlimited, just slows down) of data a month and mobile data with 16 GB a month (not unlimited,$15 per gig when I go over)

YouTube had an update awhile ago and I had to change to 144p on every video. I was wondering if this was fixed or if it has a fix
I'm currently using the android nougat stock YouTube app

So what you're asking is how to force the videos to load at 144p initially so you don't have to waste data when it initially starts loading at 480p or whatever?
