I could definitely agree with this statement also. Hypocrisy is the biggest problem in the world today, i would most certainly say. Countries can't look at their own problems without first looking at the problems in the USA. Unless the USA is announced the single most important country in the world, I don't see a reason for people to continue looking at our issues when they have issues of their own.

Dude, don't get this the wrong way, I got pretty much nothing against America (in fact I would probably go live there if I could) but if your government isn't the biggest source of questionable ethics in the world it's gotta be up there. Add that to the fact that the US is the most powerful country in the world and your leaks are gonna be pretty ugly no matter what. Wikileaks didn't just arbitrarily chose the USA to pick on, it's just that your government is the most promising target if you want to blow some whistles. Except maybe for China.

Well, get to work finding those confidential documents for other countries, and I'm sure Wikileaks will post them up for you. They can only post what they got, and with the "war or terror" and the recession, America just happens to be generating a lot of underhanded dealings and coverup.

I think the U.S. just lies at that sweet-spot. There's just enough corruption to be generating these types of documents and trying to cover them up, but not so much corruption that people actually still have access to them and can leak them. I imagine there's plenty of stuff in Russia's secret vaults, but good luck sneaking that stuff out on a flash drive. And a country like Norway, not sure they have anything to hide.

The only reason it seems like that is because of the American media, which feeds directly to your major news sources around the world. Query: Where are you from/do you live? I suggest you find a new news source if yours is like this.

In the US we are literally drowned at gunpoint with all the bureaucracy by those trying to push their will of global domination upon us, and you, wherein we are forced to stick in our own little bubbles and not give a shit or even think about kenya or cambodia or even anything aside from Gordon Ramsey or Ricky Gervais from the british isles.

I don't believe it comes down to whether or not the US is deemed the most important country in the world. What it comes down to is the idea; the belief of what we as a nation stand for. The problem lies in the fact that because of this progressive way of thinking, especially over the last 50+ years, it's gotten nothing but a terrible reputation because we, those in the spotlight, are constantly bragging and throwing sand in others' eyes instead of walking side by side with them as we should. You meet anyone from the US, sure, we can be a little outspoken, but no matter where you're from you are considered family. It's not like that with the politicians or the big business execs; they like that gap between us and them. For some reason they think it makes a better world.

Regarding his preference for attacking the US, consider that if he released similar documents from China, Russia, Iran, Israel, or any of a good number of other countries he would have disappeared long ago. We are pretty easy targets because, for all of our bluff, we won't do anything beyond wringing our hands.

Actually the US came out of this leak looking pretty damn good. Sure, having our intelligence broadcast on New York Times is a strategic nightmare, but the PR benefits will help a lot in the long run. The leak just proved what reasonable people already know... the United States is far from perfect, but we still do a pretty damn good job being the good guys.

The fact that our most secret documents can be leaked and the scandal is the leak itself, and not the contents, is a pretty amazing.

To those who say the US government is "up there" in ethics violations... Bullshit. No superpower in the history of the world has been a fraction as peaceful and benevolent as the United States. Sure, Europe can keep its hands clean lately by nature of not having to fund their own defense, but it's pretty unfair to lean on the US and then badmouth every little screw up.

People who say that crap really should move to Russia or China and start an anti-government media outlet and see how it works out.

We're in deep water for discussing whether the President of Argentina is taking her meds? The leaks are damaging strategically, but they've been a PR boost. All the "big bad USA with plots to take over the world" people got sorely disappointed with a whole lot of boring bed time reading.

I am starting to feel the same way. There are money trails starting to surface behind all of this. If you pay close attention to the leaks...there is nothing really that damning. Sure a lot of people are a little red faced because the info was leaked but it still doesn't negate the fact that they did these things. It's their own damn fault it's out there to start with. Don't do anything wrong then you don't have anything to worry about....isn't that what they tell us???

Real hard information that would stop people in their tracks and force them to take up arms isn't there. The stuff that would cause real tidal waves through the populace exists and is threatened but never seems to make it out. Seems a little shady.

I feel the US government will use this opportunity to sacrifice Assange for the sake of getting more legislature passed to remove even more of the dismal rights we have left in this country.

Internet 2.0 anyone? Total government control of the interwebs? This circus seems like a good starting point.

We are becoming weak... No we already are! He should have been terminated when he released the war logs. They were much more in the public interest but it does not change the fact that the leak needs to be plugged ASAP and with any means necessary.

I wouldn't be surprised if the U.S pass more laws as you mentioned. They'll pass it as "a bill to secure the freedom of the nation"

"Freedom" Is an amazing word that works on all the patriots.

IMO the U.S needs a small slap of socialism. They need to become a central right country
