Keyboard not typing on dell latitude laptop

Hello,
my dell keyboard on my laptop cant type anything. when i try to type in ms word, it just selects the menu

Can't type at all, or the wrong things come up? Make sure your Fn/Ctr/Shift keys are not sticking. Try an external keyboard, does that do the same thing? If an external keyboard works OK,need to get a replacement keyboard for the laptop.
