Language change?

I recently got a Compaq 3870 bought in Spain - the person who bought it for
me thought I'd easily be able to change the language to English.

This doesn't seem to be the case however - any suggestions for getting an
English interface?

Ask your machines manufacturer. Very probably not- the OS is in ROM.

There seems to be a ROM update available for Pocket PC 2002. This
should be a complete OS with all the goodies that would come with a
new unit. You can problably flash the English one into your device.
Good luck.

It's Flash ROM. You can burn a new image into it.

Bruno, Thanks for the info.

Interestingly enough, I had painstakingly figured out most of the stuff
therein
(HEX editing the ROM files - since the ROM update utility wouldn't let me
update
with an English version.)

I didn't feel safe going through with it ... but now that I see someone was
successful, I'll give it a try!

Will let you know how it goes ...

It went very well - I've now changed the language with a minimum of fuss.

Basically my method is simpler than all the pages I just read regarding
editing things with HEX editors and so on.

You follow through the procedure using the native language of your handheld
and just before clicking on "update",
swap the ROM update files keeping the same old name.
