Solved! Laptop CD Player

My player/burner doesn't work anymore.
I may have removed a program that's needed. How do I discover which one, and will I regain if I restore??

Is reading discs at all, i.e. if you put in a program cd, does it open up the install program and such? If not, go to your laptop manufacturer's support site and download the driver for the burner.
