What I've read so far you can, with a laptop, turn off the laptop's monitor and only use an external one. Would this, just having a larger screen size, cause any decrease in performance if both monitors are 1080x1920?

And would I be able to use a wired keyboard + mouse on the external monitor without activating my laptop's screen again?

I was basically planning to buy an external keyboard + monitor for my laptop. The current keyboard gets really hot (designed to be) and the monitor is too small for my taste.

You will not really notice any difference since the same video signal is sent to both the laptop's screen and the external monitor.

Solution
No there will be no difference what=so=ever. The GPU is still processing the same data regardless if it ouputs to the screen, external video out or both.
